Why is Tramadol prescribed?
Tramadol is used to relieve moderate to moderately
severe pain. It also may be used to treat pain caused by
surgery and conditions such as chronic joint pain or
cancer. Tramadol is sometimes prescribed for other uses;
check with your doctor or pharmacist for more
information about Tramadol.
How should Tramadol be used?
Tramadol comes as a 50mg tablet or capsule to be taken
orally. Tramadol is usually taken every 4-6 hours as
needed. You may take Tramadol with or without food.
Follow all directions from your doctor as well as the
directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask
your doctor to explain anything you don't understand.
Tramadol painkillers can be habit-forming; Do not take a
larger dose than recommended and don't take it more
often or for longer than your doctor instructs.
Before taking Tramadol Pain Relievers be sure to:
• let your doctor and pharmacist know if you are
allergic to Tramadol, codeine, or any other prescription
drugs
• let your doctor and pharmacist know if you are
taking any prescription and nonprescription medications,
particularly other pain relievers like (but not limited
to): MAO inhibitors like phenelzine (Nardil),
carbamazepine (Tegretol), or tranylcypromine (Parnate);
depression medications; quinidine; sleeping aids;
tranquilizers; and multi-vitamins
• let your doctor know if you have or have ever had
liver or kidney disease, a history of alcohol or drug
abuse, or a history of seizures
• let your doctor know if you are pregnant, or if you
plan to become pregnant, or are currently
breast-feeding. Call your doctor if you become pregnant
while taking Tramadol pain tablets
• let your doctor know if you are having surgery
(including dental) that you are taking Tramadol
• Tramadol may make you drowsy. Do not operate heavy
machinery (including an automobile) until you know how
you will respond to Tramadol 50mg pain pills
• remember that alcohol can increase the drowsiness
caused by Tramadol medicine
What should I do if I forget a dose of Tramadol?
If you happen to miss a tramadol dose, take the missed
dose as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time
for your next dose, you should skip the missed tramadol
dose and continue on with your regular dosing schedule.
You should not take a double dose of Tramadol.
What side effects can Tramadol cause?
Side effects from Tramadol medication are not common,
but they can occur. If any of these symptoms are severe
or do not go away tell your doctor:
• vomiting
• headache
• diarrhea
• blurred vision
• dizziness
• upset stomach
• drowsiness
You should call your doctor immediately if you
experience any of the following serious symptoms:
• speeded heartbeat
• hindered breathing
• numbness or tingling sensation of the hands and feet
• seizures
• changes in urination
• redness, swelling, and itching of the face
How to use and store Tramadol:
Your doctor will tell you how much tramadol (generic
ultram) to take and how often. Store lorcet at room
temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep all
medicine out of the reach of children.
